Ann Dvorak’s Los Angeles, Pt 9: 6366 Orange Street

Year of Ann Dvorak: Day 264

Today’s stop on our Ann Dvorak L.A. road trip takes us to this charming 1929 Spanish-style residential building at 6366 Orange Street in the Fairfax District. Ann Dvorak moved into this 4-unit building with her mom and stepfather shortly after she began working at MGM. This is where she would live until eloping with Leslie Fenton in 1932, so it was actually one of the longest places she resided up until this point in her life.

Interestingly, by 1932 her friend and Scarface costar Karen Morley was also living here with her parents.

Love the ‘Ann Dvorak’s Los Angeles’ series.

This will no doubt, be covered in the book, but, having become a big Karen Morley fan, did Ann and Karen remain friends in the years after ‘Scarface’?

One other thing — how in the world were you able to pick Ann out in that ‘Hollywood Revue’ photo from yesterday?

Morley’s husband Charles Vidor directed Ann in two films later on, and there were a couple of mentions in the papers of them hanging out socially. I am not under the impression they remained really close (Ann didn’t seem to stay close with anyone), and as I had mentioned before, I did not get the opportunity to speak with Morley before she passed away.

After 15 years, I can spot Ann from 5 miles away!
