During this later part of her career, Ann tended to have supporting roles, but she is usually pretty effective (<strong><a title=\"A Life of Her Own images\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anndvorak.com\/cms\/Filmography\/?directory=Life%20of%20Her%20Own%20(1950)\" target=\"_self\">A Life of Her Own<\/a>, <a title=\"Our Very Own images\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anndvorak.com\/cms\/Filmography\/?directory=Our%20Very%20Own%20(1950)\" target=\"_self\">Our Very Own<\/a>, <a title=\"Walls of Jericho images\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anndvorak.com\/cms\/Filmography\/?directory=Walls%20of%20Jericho%20(1948)\" target=\"_self\">Walls of Jericho<\/a>)<\/strong>. I have only sat through <a title=\"Mrs. O'Malley and Mr. Malone images\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anndvorak.com\/cms\/Filmography\/?directory=Mrs%20OMalley%20and%20Mr%20Malone%20(1950)\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Mrs. O&#8217; Malley<\/strong> <strong>and Mr. Malone<\/strong><\/a> once, and have never had the urge to revisit it. As I recall, Ann has very little to do and this role is not nearly as memorable as the aforementioned titles. Even though the film is only 69 minutes, this comedy\/murder mystery set on a train feels much longer. If one is a fan of Marjorie Main or James Whitmore, then this is probably enjoyable enough, but from an Ann Dvorak standpoint, I recommend tuning into TCM the following day for <a title=\"Heat Lightning images\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anndvorak.com\/cms\/Filmography\/?directory=Heat%20Lightning%20(1934)\" target=\"_self\"><strong>Heat Lightning <\/strong><\/a>instead.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, I just realized that Norma Taurog directed this film. He had directed Ann 17 years prior in 1933&#8217;s <a title=\"The Way to Love images\" href=\"https:\/\/www.anndvorak.com\/cms\/Filmography\/?directory=The%20Way%20to%20Love%20(1933)\" target=\"_self\"><strong>The Way to Love.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mrs. O&#8217; Malley and Mr. Malone is going to air on Turner Classic Movies on Thursday, April 17 at 1:00am EST.
